Hacettepe University Faculty of Fine Arts was established with the Decree Law No. 41 dated 20 July 1982, which was enacted with the number 2809 and entered into force on 28 March 1983. The Faculty began its academic activities in the 1983–1984 academic year with the Departments of Painting, Sculpture, Graphic Arts, and Ceramics and Glass under the Applied Arts Division.

The Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design within the Applied Arts Division, which awarded its first graduates in June 1987, was established in accordance with the decision of the Higher Education Council dated 25 July 1984 and commenced education in the 1985–1986 academic year.

In March 2024, the Department of Digital Game Design was established, marking a significant step in integrating art, design, and technology within the Faculty.

In July 2025, the University Senate approved the Creative Industries Non-Thesis Master’s Program under the Institute of Fine Arts. The program is currently awaiting approval by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). Once launched, it will be open to graduates of all disciplines and will be offered in flexible online formats.
